Procrastination is a bad mechanism for copying with emotional distress: it is part of our human nature to put off activities we dislike, so with procrastination we avoid the distress of doing something undesirable. Various unconscious thoughts underpin avoidant behavior, such as a demand for comfort, perfectionism or the fear of failure. But procrastination is self-sabotaging because the undesirable activity is pending, you end up consuming a lot of energy in putting it off and eventually performing below your potential and, at the end, the distress is worse.

Your past achievements are the result of you managing your procrastination, so, for sure, you can do it again. Follow these tips: Imagine yourself doing the task – Break it into pieces: what is one little thing you can get over with first? – Reward yourself on the way – Adjust your standards: not everything needs your 100% – Just get started.
